From storage to the best room in the house.

A converted garage is a family room, an office, a guest suite or a gym. Here's what it takes.

  • Moisture handled first. Slab and walls checked and sealed.
  • Insulated and framed. Warm walls, a flat floor.
  • Lights and outlets. By a licensed electrician, permitted.
  • Drywall and paint. No more bare joists overhead.
  • Floors you can live on. Raised or leveled over the slab.
Lights: on

    Questions people ask first.

Do I need a permit to convert my garage?

Yes. Turning a garage into living space needs a building permit, and usually electrical, plumbing or mechanical permits too, with drawn plans and inspections. Permits in Portland and Clackamas County.

Can I still park in the garage after a conversion?

Not in the part we convert. Some cities require you to keep off-street parking, so we check your city's rules before we draw anything.

Can my garage become an ADU?

Often, yes. Portland allows accessory dwelling units on most lots with a house, and a garage can be converted into one if it meets the ADU size limits and the building code. What an ADU needs.

Who does the plumbing and electrical?

Licensed plumbers and electricians, with permits. We schedule them and they work under our contract, so you still have one company to call.
